Lessons from Samsø: Renewable Energy Island

Join us as we collect bottles to return them at a grocery store and receive pant money! We also took a tour of two different sustainable initiatives in Copenhagen, ØsterGRO urban farm and the neighborhood of Nordhavn.
Community Dining and Museums
Visit the Danish Design Museum! We also celebrate a student's birthday and our week highlight was eating at Absalon, a community space where we had a communal dinner.
Danish Castles and Food Halls
Students visited Tivoli amusement park, ate at the Tivoli and Reffen food halls, and visited Youth Island! We had a week of fun and good eats learning more about democracy and sustainability.
Velkommen Session 2 Climate Change Activists!
We had a great first few days of session 2 getting acclimated to Copenhagen and our new home! We took a walking tour with Niels, our Danish guide and went on a canal tour to see the city from the water. Tuesday afternoon we went on a canal boat tour of around Nyhavn and our global navigators went on a scavenger hunt around our area. We ended Tuesday night with a "hygge" movie night and watched a Danish-English film with burger takeout.

Youth Island: Democracy in Action
Copenhagen Global Navigators visited Youth Island for the day to learn about how Denmark facilitates youth activism. Students toured the old military fort and learned about the programs Youth Island holds, and participated in a democracy game to develop public speaking and negotiation skills. They ended their day at the Broens Gadekøkken food hall with great food and a Euros match!

Exploring Copenhagen: A Walking Tour with Survival Danish
As the Program Leader for CIEE's Taking Climate Action High School Abroad program, I recently led our 13 students on an enriching walking tour of Copenhagen, guided by our teacher, Niels. We explored the city's history and culture, learning essential "Survival Danish" phrases and discovering landmarks. The students embraced Danish values and the concept of "hygge," gaining confidence and enthusiasm for their time in Copenhagen. Stay tuned for more updates from our journey!
