Honors French Language & Culture Rennes, France
Hometown: Waterbury, Vermont

Bonjour ! Je m’appelle Stephanie et je serai ravie de vous rencontrer cet été à Rennes ! I am a true Francophile, loving all of la Francophonie and what it has to offer culturally and linguistically. I have been teaching French and ELL for over 20 years and have visited numerous parts of France, Switzerland and Belgium; I have lived and studied in Quebec and in Paris, and I even completed a 3-week homestay and field study in French Polynesia! I hope too to one day visit the many countries of Francophone Africa and the Caribbean.

My first trip to Europe was at 16. I went to live with a host family in Bavaria for the summer before my senior year. I truly know what it's like to live in a foreign country as a teen, away from home and with a new family and I can assure you, it was one of the best experiences I could have ever had and helped me in innumerable ways. I look forward to helping you feel the same about your experience in Rennes!

One of my favorite quotes is, “If you speak to a man in a language, that goes to his head. If you speak to a man in his language, it goes to his heart.” (Author Unknown). Learning other languages for me is like solving a linguistic and cultural puzzle and I have studied at varying levels Spanish, Italian, German, Norwegian, Japanese, and ASL. I enjoy finding ways to unlock the linguistic codes and break down the vocabulary and grammar for others, too! I want language learning to be fun, low stress, the grammar concepts easy to understand, and raise learners' confidence in their ability to learn and speak another language. I’m passionate about being a globally-minded citizen and it’s my passion to instill this same love in all of you.

I'm very excited to be one of several leaders of the Language and Culture Program and look forward to meeting you soon.

A très bientôt!

Stephanie  😊
