- Featured Courses: Choose from a set of theoretical and practical Ecology and Sustainability courses that explore today's pressing environmental issues.

Samples of excursions and activities:
- Learn from Māori leaders about kaitiakitanga, the Indigenous concept of guardianship over land and water

Housing & Meals
Housing
CIEE Auckland offers diverse housing options to ensure you're comfortable in your home away from home. From homestays to shared apartments, we will strive for your accommodation preferences to be met. All housing has convenient access to plenty of shopping, supermarkets, restaurants, and public transportation.
Standard Housing: Includes a room in a shared apartment/residence hall or a homestay.
- Shared Apartments/Residence Halls: Students stay in double rooms within shared apartments that feature shared bathrooms. Each apartment is fully furnished, including bedroom, kitchen, and lounge furniture, and offers Wi-Fi. The self-catered accommodation is within a 45-minute commute of the University of Auckland’s main campus and the city center.
- Homestays: Immerse yourself in Auckland’s diverse culture by living with a local family. Auckland is a multicultural city, and students will stay with families from various nationalities, including Kiwis. Homestays are located within a 45- to 60-minute public transportation commute of the University of Auckland’s main campus. You’ll share daily life with your host family while enjoying breakfast and dinner together.
Select Housing: Includes a room in a shared apartment/residence hall. Select Housing has limited availability and requires an additional fee.
- Shared Apartments/Residence Halls: Students stay in single rooms within shared apartments that feature shared bathrooms. Each apartment is fully furnished, including bedroom, kitchen, and lounge furniture, and offers Wi-Fi. The self-catered accommodation is within a 45-minute commute of the University of Auckland’s main campus and the city center.
A note: The default criterion to assign housing is first-come, first-served; however, other factors may also be considered. If we cannot accommodate your first housing choice, we'll let you know before you arrive.
Meals
Shared Apartment/Residence Hall: While meals are not included, students can prepare their own meals in the fully furnished kitchen. Auckland has a vibrant food scene with fresh local fruits, vegetables, and meats readily available. Students can also explore the various restaurants in the areas surrounding the residence hall.
Homestay: Students who live with homestay families receive two meals daily (breakfast and dinner). The third meal and/or any snacks are on the student. Students can make use of the kitchen space at the homestay.

University of Auckland – Sustainability and Environmentalism Courses
The University of Auckland offers a robust selection of courses focused on sustainability, environmental science, and ecological management, providing study abroad students with the opportunity to engage with pressing global environmental challenges. Students will explore New Zealand’s leadership in conservation, climate policy, and sustainable development, all while earning credits toward their degrees.
Students can enroll in a variety of sustainability and environmental courses, including but not limited to:

Many of these courses incorporate hands-on learning, field research, and community engagement, offering students real-world experiences in New Zealand’s diverse natural environments. To help you budget, keep in mind that students are responsible for the cost of international airfare, local transportation, books and supplies, visas, and personal expenses. In addition, your college or university may charge additional fees for study abroad, or may require you to receive a transcript via CIEE's School of Record, which carries an additional fee of $500.
Program Fees
CIEE offers the most student support of any provider in its program fee, including an airport greeting, full-time leadership and support, orientation, cultural activities, local excursions, pre-departure advising, and CIEE iNext travel protection with benefits.
Financial Aid
CIEE offers the most grants and scholarships of any study abroad organization, including $8 million/year in travel grants, merit-based scholarships, institutional and MSI grants, and Gilman Go Global Grants.
