CIEE’s excursions and cultural activities in Auckland will open doors for you to explore New Zealand’s rich diversity, language, culture, history, contemporary trends, vibrant art, and timeless beauty in ways that will enhance your time abroad.
Samples of past excursions and activities:
- Learn about history, customs, and traditions from the local iwi at a Marae, exploring how Māori preserve their traditions while actively contributing to contemporary New Zealand society
- Take a ferry to Rangitoto Island, Auckland's iconic volcanic gem, and hike through lush landscapes to explore its unique volcanic terrain
- Visit Auckland's west coast to explore stunning black sand beaches and rugged wilderness trails

Housing & Meals
Housing
CIEE Auckland housing ensures students are always well-connected to the best of the city. Set in either Auckland's Central Business District or residential neighborhoods, students will enjoy a peaceful and secure living environment. Everything needed is within walking distance from their home, including various restaurants, supermarkets, a pharmacy, and easily accessible public transport options.
Standard Housing: Includes a room in a shared apartment/residence hall, student accommodation, or homestay.
- Shared Apartment/Residence Hall: Students stay in single or double rooms within two, three, or four-bedroom apartments that feature shared bathrooms. Each apartment is fully furnished, including the bedroom, kitchen, and lounge furniture, and offers complimentary Wi-Fi.
- Student Accommodation: The self-catered accommodation may provide a variety of common areas, such as BBQ facilities, a game room, lounge, basketball court, and study room, all nestled in shared apartment/residence hall facilities just minutes by foot from the city center.
- Homestay: Immerse yourself in Auckland’s diverse culture by living with a local host family. Auckland is a multicultural city, and students will stay with families from various nationalities, including Kiwis. Homestays are located within a 45 to 60-minute commute by public transportation to CIEE Auckland and /or the city center. You’ll share daily life with your host family while enjoying breakfast and dinner together. This is a great opportunity to gain firsthand, authentic connections and immerse yourself into the local culture, all while having the freedom to explore the city on your own.
A note: The default criterion to assign housing is first-come, first-served; however, other factors may also be considered. If we cannot accommodate your first housing choice, we'll let you know before you arrive. Non-standard housing options require an additional fee that can be found in the program Dates and Fees.

ASU offers thousands of online courses in asynchronous 7.5-week sessions that fit within the CIEE academic calendar.

To help you budget, keep in mind that students are responsible for the cost of international airfare, local transportation, books and supplies, visas, and personal expenses. In addition, your college or university may charge additional fees for study abroad, or may require you to receive a transcript via CIEE's School of Record, which carries an additional fee of $500.
Program Fees
CIEE offers the most student support of any provider in its program fee, including an airport greeting, full-time leadership and support, orientation, cultural activities, local excursions, pre-departure advising, and CIEE iNext travel protection with benefits.

Students are responsible and manage costs related to travel, meals, books, and personal expenses. Below are estimates for consideration.
Financial Aid
CIEE offers the most grants and scholarships of any study abroad organization, including $8 million/year in travel grants, merit-based scholarships, institutional and MSI grants, and Gilman Go Global Grants.
