Biography

Brett’s passion for global education has been shaped by a lifelong connection to academia and travel. Raised in San Diego, California, by an academic family, his mother’s dedication as a teacher and his stepfather’s leadership at Chapman University's School of Psychology instilled a strong commitment to education. From a young age, Brett lived aboard a sailboat, which took him on extended voyages throughout Mexico and the South Pacific, fostering a deep appreciation for diverse cultures.

Brett’s professional journey in international education began when he moved to New Zealand in 2003 to study sociology and literature at the University of Auckland, where he earned his MA (Honors) and taught in the sociology department. His work with Boston University Study Abroad in Auckland from 2009 to 2020 was instrumental in creating transformative experiences for students. More recently, in 2022, Brett played a key role in relaunching study abroad and exchange programs at Auckland University of Technology as the country reopened to the world.
