Rome is Italy’s historic, cosmopolitan capital city, known for its vibrant nightlife, rich blend of ancient and modern Italian culture, world-class museums like the Vatican Museums and Capitoline Museums, charming cafés and trattorias, fashionable shopping streets like Via del Corso, and beautiful parks and green spaces such as Villa Borghese and the Orange Garden. Whether you are majoring in business, science, engineering, technology, communications, psychology, health sciences, liberal arts, language, or fine arts, Rome is the perfect place to study or intern abroad.

CIEE’s excursions and cultural activities in Rome will open doors for you to explore Italy’s rich diversity, language, culture, history, contemporary trends, vibrant art, and timeless beauty in ways that will enhance your time abroad.

Housing & Meals
Housing
CIEE Rome offers diverse housing options, including shared apartments and homestays located in exciting residential areas. They are conveniently located within walking distance of restaurants, cafés, shops, and public transportation, and a maximum commute to CIEE Rome of 70 minutes.
Standard Housing: Includes a single or double room at a homestay or a double or triple room at a shared apartment or a residence hall, all located within a 70-minute commute of CIEE Rome.
- Homestays: Homestays feature a kitchen, living room, and bathroom shared with a host family. Breakfast and dinner are included.
- Shared Apartments: Apartments boast kitchens, common areas, and access to laundry facilities shared with others.
Select Housing: Includes double and triple occupancy rooms in apartments or residence halls within a 45-minute commute of CIEE Rome.

A note: The default criterion to assign housing is first-come, first-served; however, other factors may also be considered. If we cannot accommodate your first housing choice, we'll let you know before you arrive. Non-standard housing options require an additional fee that can be found in the program Dates and Fees.
Meals
Apartments: Meals are not included.
Homestays: Host families provide breakfast and dinner, and students are responsible for lunch.
Academics
CIEE Rome: Study in central Rome within walking distance of important landmarks, including the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona, and the Campo de' Fiori neighborhood. CIEE Rome features five classrooms, two student lounges, a student life office, and an academic advising office.
Arizona State University (ASU): Brought to you by CIEE in partnership with ASU, enhance your international coursework with optional online classes that align with your degree requirements. ASU offers thousands of online courses in asynchronous 7.5-week sessions that fit within the CIEE academic calendar.
Course Information
- Courses are listed below by block and track; course list subject to change. Courses are in English unless otherwise noted. “GI” denotes courses that are offered at multiple CIEE locations.
- Many CIEE courses are available in multiple CIEE locations. To help ensure you are able to enroll in the courses you need, some courses may be facilitated as a Hybrid course by an instructor from a location that is separate from your own. In a Hybrid course, you will learn either face-to-face or online, depending on your location. However, regardless of your location, you will apply what you learn from the instructor and course materials in your location. Hybrid courses can be identified in the course list as those whose course codes end in “CIEE” – open the syllabus to see the instruction location, if known.

To help you budget, keep in mind that students are responsible for the cost of international airfare, local transportation, books and supplies, visas, and personal expenses. In addition, your college or university may charge additional fees for study abroad, or may require you to receive a transcript via CIEE's School of Record, which carries an additional fee of $500.

CIEE offers the most student support of any provider in its program fee, including an airport greeting, full-time leadership and support, orientation, cultural activities, local excursions, pre-departure advising, and CIEE iNext travel protection with benefits.

Optional Housing
CIEE accommodation options are detailed in the Housing section. Based on availability, Select or Select Plus Housing can be chosen during the application process for an additional fee. Housing is assigned on a first-come, first-served basis; however, other factors may also be considered.

Financial Aid
CIEE offers the most grants and scholarships of any study abroad organization, including $8 million/year in travel grants, merit-based scholarships, institutional and MSI grants, and Gilman Go Global Grants.
