This morning we visited the Mercado de  Alicante in downtown Alicante.  Students explored all the sections of the market: fish, meat, fruits and vegetables to complete a descriptive activity. The students were also asked to document their most interesting or exotic find in the market. They also sought out information on the history of the market which was the scene of a bombing during the Spanish Civil War.  As many as 300 people perished during the bombing in May 25th, 1938.  At the market, aside from a memorial of the tragic event, there is in display the clock which stopped at the time of the bombing and the anti-aircraft alarm that did not go off that day.

It was a great visit to the market!

In the afternoon, the students visited MARQ, Museo Arqueológico de Alicante. Before they started their visit they did a little bit of research about the museum. They found out it has  been a museum since the year 2000, it is a museum of historical artifacts and prior to becoming a museum it used to be a hospital, Hospital de San Juan de Dios. Then they proceeded to visit all five galleries while completing an activity highlighting some of the important artifacts of the museum.
