Mallorca's Historical Catedral
We had a sunny and productive day visiting the Cathedral of Santa Maria of Palma, also known as La Seu, the main religious building on the island of Mallorca. La Seu, or the Palma Cathedral, is located on the shore of the Bay of Palma.
Our students enjoyed an wonderful tour, admiring the beautiful architecture. They learned about the golden sandstone and the major renovations by architect Antoni Gaudí in the early 20th century, including the addition of the giant crown-of-thorns canopy over the altar. Students also observed the Corpus Christi Altarpiece (17th century) and the Great Organ of the Cathedral of Palma.
The tour continued with the history of El Portal del Mirador, named so because it faces the sea. At the end of the tour, the students shared their reflections on this enriching experience.
