La Cuisine Française
Today we had a cooking class at L'Atelier Gourmand. The students were excited to learn about French cuisine and try their hand at making their very own Sablé Breton Tartelette.
Sablé Breton is a regional cookie much like English shortbread cookies. The tarte, or pie, is made with a Sablé Breton crust. For today's class, the students used pineapple and caramel to complete the recipe.
The most difficult part of the lesson was separating the eggs. The students enjoyed learning how to crack the egg in two and separate it by pouring the yolk back and forth between the egg shell halves. Well, that was the way is was supposed to happen.
Once the dough was ready, we put it in the refigerator to cool and while that was happening we got a lesson on how to make caramel. It smelled delicious! We couldn't wait to taste it.
Once the tartelettes came out of the oven, students plated them and got caramel sauce on top. Délicieux!
