De la Tierra Al Sol - A Day at the Planetarium
This Thursday we mixed things up from our typical afternoon activities of exploring the city on foot and instead headed to the planetarium for a more relaxed cultural experience. We went into an enormous dome, shuffled in single-file to a pitch black room, and enjoyed a tour of the cosmos. Who knew that “Mars” in Spanish is “Marte(s)”?! Tuesdays just got a whole lot rockier.
Because it’s winter break over here, the area was crammed with families enjoying the last few days of the holiday. It was a great opportunity for CIEE students to engage in community conversations about a variety of relevant topics. This was especially fitting for our advanced students who are exploring concepts of lithium mining and political perspectives in regards to climate change. Nothing quite like taking a virtual tour of earth and then flexing some Spanish vocabulary to chat about how human impact has altered not only our experience on land, but how our planet has physically changed in astronomical footage.
Tomorrow we toss on hiking shoes and head to Iguazú, sure to be the highlight of our trip. Hard to believe we are closing out our third week of the program and we’ve barely scratched the surface of all the Argentinian experiences one could have.
