Creativity in Melaka!
Our class learned about Malaysian batik that is an art of decorating with wax.
This is a very old form of art. Malaysian batik is lively, bright and can be in the form of murals, household linen, scarves and tailored garments.
The students had an opportunity to apply this technique in the form of their own wall hanging consisting of many designs including marine fish, flowers, and birds.
The students embraced this ancient form of art with enthusiasm and created beautiful pieces of batik art.
Next, the students experienced the art of paper cutting known as “jianzhi”. This is one of the most popular folk arts in China. Papercutting may also be used for celebrations and festivals.
The students were given a pattern of a dragon made from paper. The pattern consisted of small squares and triangles that needed to be cut in a precise manner.
We learned this form of art takes practice and patience!
