Cooking Class!
This week, kids have had the chance to take cooking classes on various traditional foods from this region, some Mallorquin foods and others generally Spanish or Mediterranean.
On Monday, in the Mallorquin cooking class, students cooked tumbet, which is a typical dish from Mallorca made with eggplant, and coca de trampó, another typical dish that is kind of like pizza. They finished off the class with some delicious brownies!
Tuesday and Wednesday, students studied Mediterranean cooking, including very typical Spanish dishes such as gazpacho, a cold tomato soup, and paella, a rice dish seasoned with saffron. They also made tortilla de patata or Spanish omelet, which is not made of corn or wheat flour like the tortillas you may be picturing, but rather of eggs, onion, and potato. Finally, they made crema catalana for dessert, which is like a crème brulee.
It was great to learn how to make these typical Mallorquin and Spanish foods and to try what we made afterwards!
