A Weekend in Rotterdam
Why would one want to go to Rotterdam? To visit many sites of course! On our weekend excursion we continued our understanding of Smart Cities and Sustainability. Rotterdam was almost leveled by bombing during WWII. When the war was over the community worked together building a new city, the people almost had a clean slate to start from.
During this 2 1/2 day trip, we were able observe first hand the difference between Rotterdam and Amsterdam. We visited a floating farm project, what else do you have on a farm? Cows! A solution for lack of land, put the farms on the water.
We also went to a Restoration Museum, Depot Boijmans. where they not only restore priceless works of art but many are displayed for the public. The museum itself is an interesting piece of art.
To fill up our time one evening. (ha,ha) we also filled up our bellies with a cruise on a Pannenkoekenboot on the Nieuwe Maas River. Finally a visit to the Rotterdam Museum, helped increase our knowledge of how one day of bombing destroyed so much of this city.
