We left our mark on Paris!
All students got to be street artists this week, either Thursday or Friday. We went to a skate park in Bercy, in the 12th district, where a professional artist taught us a few basic spray painting techniques. Students were then instructed to brainstorm ideas for their design, in groups of five. No drawings at this stage, but a list of words (three per student). Then our instructor helped each group think of a design that was a collective representation of some of the words they had selected (including mango, stars, bones, eyes, mushroom, dog, rainbow–just to name a few).
After practicing spray painting on a smaller surface, each group gathered around one section of a long strip of wall and started working on their respective projects. Colorful and thoughtful works of art developed right in front of our eyes and resulted in a beautiful patchwork of unique creations. Students enjoyed every step of the process and felt proud of their designs. Every single student contributed to the artworks pictured in this gallery.
