Studying abroad in the summer means making the most out of each and every day - that´s why on this program, we take advantage of the cooler mornings in Sevilla to explore through tours and cultural activities. Today, the students got a chance to visit the Real Alcázar de Sevilla on a guided tour. This expansive compound is in the heart of the city and is one of the oldest and most spectacular palaces in use in the world. The Alcázar is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most emblematic landmarks in Sevilla. It came to be in the early Middle Ages and has evolved with the city, and as a result its architecture and history represent the incredible mix of influences that characterize Sevilla. The site is a blend of Christian and Mudéjar architecture, and every corner is filled with intricate details such as painted tiles, intricate arches and handcarved Arabic writing. Last but not least, the Alcázar features sprawling gardens with fountains and even peacocks wandering among the plants.

The picturesque palace with its many rooms, galleries and passageways also made a great subject for the girls to use with some of the film and photography techniques they have been learning in class. They also got to practice Spanish with our guide, who explained the history behind the Alcázar.

You may have already visited this once-in-a-lifetime historical site without even realizing it! The Alcázar has been shown in several movies and is featured quite prominently in Game of Thrones. We were lucky enough to walk these magical grounds ourselves:
