VISIT TO THE NATIONAL ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM
Today, my group and Nicoletta's group enjoyed a visit to the Museo Arqueológico Nacional - the National Archaeological Museum! Our global navigators were able to learn about the history of Spain and see artifacts from various phases of Spanish history, including Roman Hispania and medieval Muslim Spain (Al-Andalus). We did a virtual treasure hunt in which our global navigators had to look for and identify several artifacts around the museum. They took photos of the artifacts and found a couple of facts about each one. We had a wonderful time, and then did a short debrief in which we discussed a few of our favorite things about the museum. We loved the ancient jewelry, the Roman helmets, and the ceramics - just to name a few!
Since the museum is right next to the Plaza Colón, we visited that next. This plaza commemorates Christopher Columbus and it is where Spaniards celebrate el Día de la Hispanidad every year on October 12th. On the Día de Hispanidad, we celebrate the brotherhood of Spain and all the other spanish-speaking countries. We spent a little bit of time there relaxing, enjoying the fresh air and completing the first Community Conversation (aka Misión Ñ). In the Community Conversations, which happen every day, students take their knowledge from class and put it to the test talking to locals. In today's Community Conversation, our students asked for recommendations of what to do and see during their time in Madrid. They got some great ones!
