Une Visite à Vannes
As part of their overnight excursion, Navigators spent a half day in the city of Vannes. Even the weather was perfect!
Vannes is city of about 55,000 people and is a Ville Fleuri, or a city that has been recognized for its flowers and gardens. Vannes has beautiful gardens and some of the best-preserved city walls in France and they date all the way back to Roman times.
Navigators started with a short guided tour to learn more about these walls and their history. The area that is now a garden and park used to be a moat. Students also learned about the half-timbered houses (we recognized those!) that give Vannes its colorful character.
After the tour, Navigators had a picnic and picked up some snacks at the Saturday market. During free time many students strolled along the marina, shopped for used books or sampled some of the best ice cream in Vannes.
