Sunshine, Sand, and Snowballs: First Day Adventures in Palma!
Yesterday, (and a few today) our students landed in Palma de Mallorca, met their welcoming program leaders (PLs), CIEE staff, and finally, their host families! After a restful sleep, they kicked off their adventure at the iconic Plaza de España.
From there, they hopped on a bus and headed straight for C'an Pere Antoni Beach. The Bay of Palma lived up to its reputation, with crystal-clear, turquoise blue water. Students spent the afternoon soaking up the sun, splashing in the waves, and building friendships. Sunscreen was definitely a must, but that didn't stop the fun. Students enjoyed card games, tossed a football around (American style!), devoured delicious Spanish lunches, and cooled off with refreshing ice pops.
Next, a "snowball fight" (with crumpled up paper!) at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) helped break the ice. The afternoon capped off with an orientation session that fueled their excitement for the weeks ahead. They learned the ins and outs of Spanish culture, homestay life, and all the amazing experiences on the horizon, including their upcoming classes in Mediterranean marine ecosystems and sustainability.
Stay tuned for more adventures from sunny Palma!
