Prague Castle Tour
Prague Castle Tour
Prague is known as the city of 100 spires. From many points in town, you can glimpse a view of the Prague Castle complex with the spires of St. Vitus's cathedral peeking out above.
We began our tour by hopping on the tram, which took us across the river and up the hill toward the castle. While the Prague Castle itself is the main attraction, we also had the opportunity to walk around the surrounding streets where our tour guide pointed out many important buildings and noted beautiful architectural features.
The Prague castle's origins date back to the 9th century and was later expanded and rebuilt by Charles the IV. Today, Prague Castle is one of the most visited sites in Prague and continues to house the country's current President and public offices and operations.
Near the entrance to Prague Castle, there is a spot in the garden that has an echo effect when one is speaking. Olivia volunteered to test it out!
We enjoyed admiring the massive St. Vitus's cathedral up close, which still functions as the central Catholic Church in Prague. Coronations of Kings and Queens took place here, as did weddings! Due to its construction throughout multiple time periods, the architecture is an interesting mix of gothic, neo-gothic, Baroque, and Nouveau style.
Perhaps best of all are the viewpoints from the castle complex. I think we all can agree that the rooftops, many spires, winding cobblestone roads, and river below are quite magical!
