What a great way to start the week! Yesterday, students went on the ¨Carnavalito¨, an open-air bu tour, around the historic center Mérida and its surrounding areas. They learned about the history of the city, its buildings, and about the important figures who are part of the Yucatecan history like Francisco de Montejo, Mérida´s founder, and Jacinto Canek, a Mayan leader who fought against the Spanish settlers.

Students enjoyed taking pictures of the colourful houses and parks as we went down major streets and neighbourhoods. Half way through the tour, we stopped at a small shopping centre where students were able to shop for souvenirs and to cool down, Mérida is very hot! We finished off the tour at Santa Lucía´s park where students held their community conversations with local people, with whom they discussed art related topics.
