Learning about Breton Culture
Students are learning daily about what it means to be a "Rennais" or "Rennaise", residents of the city of Rennes who are both French and Breton. We've met people who identify themselves as "Breton" rather than French. We are learning about the long history of la Bretagne, of which Rennes is the adminitrative capital. We've noticed that street signs are posted in both French and Breton (the regional language of la Bretagne). This week we attended a workshop on Breton culture and dance, where we learned about the Celtic influence on the language, music and dance of Rennes. We even learned a few dance steps!
