Le Marché des Lices
To Market, to market to buy a... Kouign amann!?
Saturday morning found us joining the locals of Rennes in their weekly visit to market square ! Every week for the past 400 years, some 300 local producers, artisans, and vendors set up to welcome an average of 10,000 shoppers.
The Marché des Lices is the second largest market in France, and includes two large indoor halls in addition to outdoor stalls.
The featured Breton gastronomy is a feast for the eyes, and the tastebuds : local fruits and vegetables,
...regional specialties including Far Breton (a flan-style custard cake), Kouign amann (a layered, buttery pastry) and galettes (buckwheat flour crepes),
...seafood and meats,
...bread and cheeses… and flowers !
Local musiciens make market day more festive, before it’s “home again, home again jiggety-jig”.
