The Instrumental Usage of Art
Written by: Miguel Gonzalez Del Castillo, Session 1 Barcelona

Bienvenidos a España todos! Coming to Spain, I can say that we were all a little scared to make news friends, navigate a new country, speak a second language, and try lots of new things. However, as time passed we found our home in a city built on culture and new experiences. Speaking of new experiences, we had the brilliant opportunity to explore the creative expressions of the rising minds from Barcelona through the practice of graffiti. We explored the beautiful works to display the fight against aids, describe the severity of homelessness, mental health, and much more. Then, we found our own artistic expressions by spray painting a beautiful portrait of an abstract art piece. We all understood how art brings everyone together because we now understand that major issues are reflected across the world and can be brought to light by bold art pieces. This has built a connection between our home in the US and Spain. Now we understand that solving an issue not only changes our community, but instead the world.
