Getting Our Feet Wet Around the City of Palma!
Hola Everyone! Program Leader Dee popping in here! We have spent the last two days easing the students into the surroundings of the city and the content of the material they will be studying for these next few weeks! Although bodies may have been tired from jet lag, there were no signs of that as our students were so enthusiastic and cheery about getting to explore the city and introducing themselves to one another.
Their second day in Mallorca was spent participating in an informative orientation in the morning, and relaxing on the beach in the afternoon. As the students first laid eyes on the sparkling aquamarine waters of Playa de Can Pere Antoni, it was thrilling to witness their excitement! Who couldn't resist a frolic in the refreshing cool waters? After splashing their hearts out, each group split into two activities that were planned for the day.
One group got to know one another and learned more about Diversity Training and Inclusion with Hannah, while the others stretched their legs in beach yoga with Bea, who not only teaches Marine Biology but is a certified yoga instructor as well! It was fantastic seeing the students get to know each other and begin to enjoy the beautiful environment Mallorca has to offer.
The following afternoon was spent in the gorgeous Jardines Del Rey in Palma. These lush royal gardens served as the perfect classroom for students to learn about Bystander Intervention and practiced tools to keep themselves and one another safe, as well as provide support in potentially harmful situations. It was lovely to see the respect the students showed for the role-playing situations they were in, as well as for one another.
There was also Spanish class with Tania, who did an outstanding job of making the students feel comfortable enough to practice their Spanish skills. There were fun games and smiles all throughout class, really allowing for everyone to shine in their own regard.
In between classes on breaks, we Program Leaders showed our students the breathtaking Cathedral of Mallorca and took some awesome photos with local landmarks in the area.
The rest of the week and this weekend are going to be absolutely wonderful! We are just getting started!
