Día en la Estancia La Mimosa
The students had a great time experiencing the gaucho culture in the campo this weekend! We got a glimpse into the traditional rural life, where the ranchers train horses, raise cattle, and keep alive the cornerstone of Argentine food culture--el asado. On arrival, we were greeted with a delicious empanada de carne appetizer. At 1pm we sat together to start the typical asado lunch, which consisted of individual servings of beef, pork, chicken, chorizo, and morcilla, which are cooked on a parrilla (grill) or an open fire. During the meal the students were entertained and enthralled by baile folklórico. The performers displayed a variety of traditional dances such as la cueca, la chacarera, and la arunguita. Visitors were then invited to come to the dance floor and join the festivities. Every single student couldn't help but get up and show their moves! A few other activities the students engaged in throughout the day were horse carriage rides, horse-back riding, and even an impromptu fútbol game with local children!
