Today, our students embarked on an exciting educational adventure to Portixol, a picturesque port-side area of Palma de Mallorca. This vibrant locale set the perfect stage for a day dedicated to marine biology and hands-on learning.

Our first stop was Aula de Mar, a marine biology laboratory. Here, students participated in three immersive workshops led by the institution's knowledgeable staff. These sessions provided an in-depth look into the Mediterranean ocean's unique ecosystem.

The first workshop delved into the complexities of the Mediterranean ecosystem, offering students a comprehensive understanding of the delicate balance and diverse life forms found in these waters. The second session featured an engaging video about plankton, shedding light on these microscopic yet crucial components of the marine food chain. In the final workshop, students had the opportunity to examine various samples from beaches around the island under microscopes, revealing the intricate details of marine life and coastal ecosystems.

A highlight for many was the hands-on experience with different marine animals. Students held sea urchins and crabs and examined an array of shells and bones. This direct interaction with marine life sparked curiosity and fostered a deeper appreciation for ocean conservation.

After a morning of scientific exploration, the group enjoyed a well-deserved lunch and free time at the beautiful Portixol beach. The serene surroundings provided a perfect backdrop for relaxation and reflection on the morning's discoveries.

The day concluded back at the CIEE building, where students resumed their Spanish and Biology classes. This integration of field experience and classroom learning ensured a comprehensive educational experience, reinforcing the day's lessons and expanding their understanding of both subjects.

Overall, the trip to Portixol was an enriching experience, combining the beauty of Palma de Mallorca with valuable scientific education. Our students returned with new knowledge, unforgettable memories, and a strengthened passion for marine biology.
