¿Culture or cruelty? The Las Ventas Bull Ring
This week Language and Culture students had the opportunity to tour the Las Ventas Bull Ring, among the most important in the world! The students learned about famous bull fighters, the neo-mudejar architecture of the building, and the art of the event itself. The tour guide gave us an exposition of his impressive bullfighting moves. We even got to try it ourselves virtually, using a VR bullfight video game!
Students also delved into the debate surrounding this event. Spaniards that support the event regard it as an important cultural tradition. Meanwhile, many younger Spaniards condemn the tradition due to it's unjust treatment of animals. Many students chatted with their host family's about this hot debate to further their understanding of the topic.
