Ca'n Joan de s'Aigo
Today, our students had the chance to try some delicious foods at one of the oldest and most well-known ice cream/pastry shops in Mallorca. 'Joan de S'Aigo' was an entrepreneur in the early 1700s who would go to the Serra de Tramuntana on the island to collect snow and store it in 'cases de neu' with his team of workers. Using the melted snow and mixing it with flour and fruit juices, he was able to create an early form of ice cream!
On our way to the destination, we stopped to appreciate the magnificent architecture in Palma and enjoy the beautiful weather.
Since the 1700s, more shops have opened under the same name throughout Palma, but we took our students to the original location in the "old city."
When we arrived at our reserved tables, students were provided with pastries to sample. We were able to try ensaimadas (a "must have" when coming to Mallorca) as well as other delicacies.
Then, our students were able to order an ice cream. Everyone agreed that it was delicious!
After eating, we all understood how this wonderful establishment has stood the test of time, and continues to provide excellent desserts through to the present day! Stay tuned for more updates as our adventure continues!
