There is a common saying in Bretagne that states, "Fog low in the morning, good weather predicted", and this is quite representative of the weather we've been experiencing this week. Thankfully the rain has staved off, and we are lucky to experience some sunny afternoons!

After a very long Monday spent entirely in class, the navigators were able to have a break in the school week on Wednesday for their second excursion.

The students and 3 programs leaders headed out early Wednesday morning in the coach bus for Dinan.

Dinan is known as one of the best preserved small towns in Brittany with its ~2 miles of preserved ramparts, small shops, towers, and the same half-timbered houses we find in Rennes.

The students had free time here to walk around and discover the town on their own, eat lunch, and enjoy the beautiful scenery!

Our next stop was Mont-Saint-Michel!

Mont-Saint-Michel is a UNESCO world heritage site with a 1300-year-old abbey at the top. The students were very excited to see one of the most visited places near Bretagne which has been said to be the 8th wonder of the world, and it did not disappoint yesterday!

Unfortunately, when we arrived the Abbey was still under a lot of fog and we weren't able to see the full effect until later in the afternoon upon leaving the marshes.

The students visited the abbey and surrounding buildings with a guided audio tour, and then they were free to navigate the island and discover the small shops and restaurants.

I truly enjoyed watching the students marvel at the views of my favorite spot in France.  They learned a lot about the history and transformations of the Mont-Saint-Michel, and then we hopped back on the coach bus to return to Rennes.

Tonight (Thursday) is the "Fête de la musique" which happens every year on the summer solstice.  There will be over 100 different bands and musical groups performing all throughout the Rennes metro area this evening.  The students are free to visit until curfew or stay out with their families to experience a true Breton festival that only happens once a year!

This weekend students will have free time with their families after visiting "Marché des Lices" on Saturday morning.  We are keeping our fingers crossed for good weather!

À suivre et à la prochain!
