Abanicos y más abanicos
Our students started their second week of the L&C program in Palma de Mallorca learning about ‘abanicos’. Our workshop instructor taught us about its history and how the use of fans goes back to the Babylon Empire centuries BC. Back then, they were big, heavy, and luxurious. Many of them had peacock feathers to make them look more colorful and beautiful. Nowadays, modern fans come in many different colors and a variety of designs. Students also learned about the secret language of the fan, which was a lot of fun.

Later during the workshop, all participants received a white fan to decorate using their own design. They did such a great job! Their fans looked beautiful! There are so many talented artists in our group of students. Some of the designs included vibrant colors, flowers, flags, their names, clouds, and many more creative motifs. It is amazing to see the students carrying their fans and using them to generate a cool breeze to fight the heat. Let’s keep immersing ourselves in the culture of beautiful Palma!
