Coming to Paris, I wouldn’t have called myself a fashion expert. My style was a mix of trends without much thought. But being in one of the world’s fashion capitals inspired me to step up my game and experiment. As a CIEE student studying abroad, I wanted to find ways to dress well without breaking the bank—and Paris turned out to be a thrifting haven!

Here are my top tips for budget-friendly fashion finds in Paris:

1. The Marais

The Marais, located in the 3rd arrondissement, is a treasure trove for thrift shopping. This neighborhood has an abundance of stores, many of which focus on secondhand fashion. Some of my favorite spots include Kilo Shop and Free’P’Star, but there are countless others to explore. The Marais is the perfect place to spend an afternoon wandering through racks of vintage pieces, discovering unique finds, and embracing the Parisian fashion vibe.

2. Flea Markets

Flea markets quickly became my favorite way to shop in Paris. Held on Saturdays and Sundays, these markets are in various locations around the city and change weekly. You might stumble upon one while exploring or find details through social media—locals often share updates about where and when these markets will take place. Flea markets are budget-friendly and full of hidden gems. For instance, my friend scored an American Vintage sweater for just €30! Many vendors are individuals or families selling pre-loved items, and you can often find amazing designer pieces at a fraction of their original price.

3. Pop-Up Events and Social Media Finds

Social media is an incredible tool for finding unique shopping experiences in Paris. My roommate discovered several pop-up fashion events through Instagram, where local vendors gather to sell curated or handmade pieces. These events are not just about shopping—they’re also a great opportunity to meet locals and dive into Paris’s creative scene.

4. The Champs-Élysées

If you’re visiting with family or want to splurge on a luxury piece, the Champs-Élysées is the place to go. Home to iconic designer brands, this famous avenue offers a glimpse into the high-end side of Parisian fashion.

As an Open Campus Block student, I’ve had the chance to study in three different cities, and I can confidently say Paris is the best for fashion. Whether you’re a seasoned thrifter or just starting to explore your style, Paris has something for everyone.

I hope this guide helps make your study-abroad experience!
