Pathé Tuschinski Movie Theater in Amsterdam

By: Ellie Stein

If you are a movie lover like me, Amsterdam’s 1920s movie theater will be one of your favorite spots to visit in Amsterdam. The art deco style makes the movie experience all the more magical and takes a cozy and comforting look from the usual commercial movie theaters in the US. This movie theater is located right next to Rembrantplein Square in the heart of the city, surrounded by bustling restaurants. The theatre offers a warm and inviting space when the months start to get cold here in The Netherlands, and it plays movies, new and old, constantly for viewers to enjoy.

When I walked into the opera house-style lobby, I was amazed by the decoration and atmosphere of the space. After getting my popcorn and a glass bottle of coke, we walked through the beautiful building to the theater with our movie. The movie theatre itself was gorgeous, with large couch-like seats in which to enjoy the movie. When sitting in the chair, I was finally able to take in the room. Gorgeous light stands on every side table, wallpaper extends the lengths of the walls, and gorgeous sliver screen ahead. The movie theater was something out of a movie. Finally, the time came for the lights to dim, and my excitement arose as I sat with anticipation for the movie ahead.

The world of the Tuschinski movie theater takes you out of the reality of the world outside, whether cold or busy, to an escape of amazing adventure, great sadness, and huge laughs for the most amazing movie experience I have known to date. In Amsterdam, the Pathé Tuschinski Movie Theater is an absolute must-go and one of the best, most comfortable places to enjoy a great movie and travel back in time all in one.
