My Five Favorite Places to Go In Copenhagen
By: Emmet Anderson
The Louisiana Museum
I genuinely think the Louisiana Museum in Humlebaek is the greatest museum I’ve ever been to. For starters, the location is impeccable. On the edge of a gorgeous sculpture garden is the Øresund Strait, a gorgeous body of water with a beach. Once inside the museum, I was treated to some fascinating, thought-provoking, and gorgeous pieces of art. My favorite was "The Visitors", a multi-channel video artwork created by Icelandic artist Ragnar Kjartansson, in which musicians are filmed performing separately in different rooms of a mansion, with their performances later synchronized into a single composition. I also enjoyed “Scared Man”, which was a tuxedo-clad man with his back to the wall, perched on a cornice looking nervously as if he was about to fall.
Fredericksburg Castle
Frederiksborg Castle is a true gem in Denmark's cultural landscape. It stands as a testament to exquisite Renaissance architecture and historical significance. Nestled within gorgeous lakes and lush gardens, the castle's grandeur is awe-inspiring. Its meticulously adorned chambers, adorned with intricate tapestries, ornate furniture, and stunning artwork, offer an immersive journey into Danish history. The National History Museum within its walls encapsulates the nation's narrative through an impressive collection of portraits, artifacts, and regal regalia. A visit to Frederiksborg Castle is a captivating exploration of art, architecture, and Danish heritage that leaves an indelible mark on every visitor.
Reffen Food Garden
Reffen Food Garden in Copenhagen is like a foodie paradise with a cool twist. This awesome open-air market is where you can chow down on everything from mouthwatering street eats to funky fusion creations, all served up in repurposed shipping containers. The vibe is totally laid-back and fun, perfect for grabbing a bite with friends by the waterfront. Whether you're into global flavors or just want to try something new, Reffen's got you covered for a tasty and relaxing dining experience.
Tivoli Gardens
Tivoli Gardens is a charming amusement park that combines traditional rides with beautiful gardens and a magical atmosphere. The park offers a great blend of entertainment options for both adults and children. The iconic roller coaster, lovely themed areas, and frequent live performances (including a Macklemore concert while I was there) make it a delightful experience. The park is especially enchanting at night when the lights create a captivating ambiance.
Superkilen
Superkilen is a unique urban park in Copenhagen that's known for its creative and diverse design. It's a collaborative effort between artists, architects, and residents, resulting in a space that celebrates cultural diversity and global influences. The park's unconventional design appeals to those who appreciate modern art and urban planning. It's a great place to take a stroll, have a picnic, or simply enjoy the eclectic surroundings.

Studying abroad in Copenhagen during fall as a High School student 2024
One aspect of studying abroad in a foreign country that comes along with the amazing experiences is realizing and being grateful for everything you have at home. I really never appreciated how nice it is to be around your native language and the importance of being able to communicate. I’m very lucky, since most Danes speak very good English, so I can get by, but if I had traveled to a different country it would be even more difficult. By studying abroad, I feel I have become a lot more confident and independent. One aspect that has helped me is having an amazing host family. I think my experience would have been a lot more challenging if I didn’t have them.
