If you ever find yourself in the heart of Monteverde, a visit to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve should be at the top of your list. Nestled in the misty highlands of the Tilarán Mountain Range, this breathtaking reserve is a sanctuary for biodiversity, offering an unforgettable adventure in one of the world’s most unique ecosystems.

On my first visit to the cloud forest, I was amazed by the views. There was a light rain coming down that cooled the air nicely as I began my hike. I found myself in awe of the vibrant green hues that stretch endlessly above and below. Which I was initially hesitant to join the hike with my friends, I quickly realized any steep climbs would be worth it. This mystical environment is home to a staggering variety of wildlife, from howler monkeys to tiny, iridescent hummingbirds.

The reserve offers a variety of trails, from easy walks (which was more my speed) to more challenging hikes, each one showcasing a different aspect of the forest’s rich ecosystem. The skywalk, which is accessible on the beginner friendly paths, is also a must see. It is a series of suspension bridges high in the canopy, and provides a bird's-eye view of the lush landscape. As you traipse down the hanging bridges, you’ll feel like you're walking in the clouds themselves.

One of the most magical moments of my time in the cloud forest was my view from the photo point, which shows the mountains as they come alive in the mist—everything from the rustle of unseen creatures to the calls of exotic birds can be heard in the air. Visiting the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve is more than just a hike; it’s a chance to immerse yourself in a world that feels both ancient and otherworldly, a true testament to nature's beauty and resilience.

For nature lovers and adventure seekers alike, Monteverde is a must-see destination in Costa Rica.
