Recognition Program

CIEE recognizes the milestone anniversaries of our staff and shares them publicly in Town Hall meetings. CIEE provides financial anniversary rewards, which are processed as compensation and taxed accordingly to be in line with auditing and accounting standards. Details are below:

  • 5 Years of Employment: Staff receives $100 into their paycheck during their month of hire.
  • 10 Years of Employment: Staff receives $250 into their paycheck during their month of hire.
  • 15 Years of Employment: Staff receives $500 into their paycheck during their month of hire.
  • 20 Years of Employment: Staff receives $1,000 into their paycheck during their month of hire. Plus lunch or drinks with their team.
  • 25 Years of Employment: Staff receives $1,500 into their paycheck during their month of hire. Plus lunch or drinks with their team.
  • Each 5 year milestone thereafter: Staff receives $1,500 into their paycheck during their month of hire. Plus lunch or drinks with their team

Full Time, Regular, US-based Employees

Objective 

CIEE encourages employees to achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle through physical fitness. Engaging in physical activity can increase productivity at work, elevate morale and help prevent illness.

Eligibility 

Fitness membership reimbursement is available to full-time, regular, US-based employees of CIEE, effective the first of the month after date of hire.  (This program does not apply to dependents).

Policy

The first $20 of each month’s membership fee is not reimbursable. The remainder of the membership fee will be reimbursed up to a maximum of $25 per month. Eligible fees include the monthly fees for an individual membership at a fitness center, fitness programs such as yoga or Zumba where you pay membership dues or an at-home fitness program with monthly dues. Employees with a family membership must provide documentation outlining the cost for an individual membership, and will be reimbursed based upon that amount, as outlined above.

Employees will be reimbursed directly from CIEE on a quarterly or annual basis, depending on the type of membership.

Procedure 

Employees must complete the Fitness Reimbursement Form to be reimbursed. A copy of the paid membership receipt must be submitted each quarter for reimbursement of monthly membership enrollment. For annual membership enrollment periods, it is best to submit your claims at the end of your membership enrollment period. Upon approval of the expense, employees can expect to receive their fitness reimbursement in the next available paycheck:

  1. At the end of the quarter for monthly enrollment membership; or
  2. At the end of the 12-month period for annual enrollment membership

Exclusions 

Recreational activities, weight-loss programs, and other similar programs, although encouraged as part of an overall fitness program, do not qualify for reimbursement.

Tax Liability 

The amount reimbursed to employees will be reported as taxable income to the Internal Revenue Service and is subject to FICA, Medicare, federal, state, and local taxes. 

Additional Information 

Employees should consult with a physician before beginning a physical regimen.

Definitions 

Full-time, regular employee – Employee working 32 hours or more/week.
Dependent – Spouse/Domestic Partner, Child

As an extension of our Study Abroad Program, CIEE is offering a 50% discount off the list price to all employees and their dependent family members (spouse/legal partner, children) who would like to attend one of our programs. Each family member is subject to the standard rules and regulations of each program and must comply with the eligibility requirements of the particular program. The employee must have worked a minimum of one year before they and their dependents are eligible. Please contact HR if you are interested in utilizing the discount.
