Last Birthday in the ROK
Thank God March is almost here. I'm desperately awaiting the arrival of Spring.
However now, in the interim, I'm no longer obstinate when it comes to going outside--in the cold--after dark. In the dead of winter I'd shoot down the idea like a deer in the woods if I forgot something at the grocery store. I'd wait until the next day to get it, or the weekend.
wearing my UshankaBut now that the weather isn't falling below freezing--much--at night, I'm able to walk outside without wearing thermal underwear (though I still wear my wool coat). If I go out after dark to the convienience store I don't have to wear my mink Ushanka (Russian hat) to keep my head and ears warm (I wear a beanie instead).
Right beside this change of season is my birthday, which is the first day of March. But this March 1st will be the last one I spend in Korea. Last weekend in Seoul (early I know) with friends I celebrated it.
Together we ate a ton of Mexican food, pizza, and chicken through midnight, drank, and laughed as though we were kids watching saturday morning cartoons. I usually prepare and eat healthy dishes all week for myself, being conscious of my acid reflux, but for my birthday I pigged-out without a thought in the world. Besides, Hongdae is the clubbing district. People eat so much and walk around through the sunrise as though every hour after nightfall is someone's birthday.
Here's a look at last weekend:
Surprisingly delicious Red Velvet Cake at Dos Tacos restaurant The best Mexican food I've had in Seoul! I always dance! 24! No idea who this costumed person was but he--or she--appeared as an interesting character in Hongdae!
Until next time friends,
Evan
