A taste of Spain
Last week our group participated in a tasty cooking workshop! Gloria, our host, was so kind, patient, and helpful in teaching participants about the dishes we prepared and the culture behind them. Jaden, our cake decorator, will tell you about it from his point of view!
What I loved about the cooking class today was that we got to actually create Spanish dishes and learn how to make them ingredient by ingredient and step by step as we got to see the entire process of making the meals. Additionally, I loved how we got to immerse ourselves into Spanish culture with cooking Paella, Tortilla, and Tarta De Santiago in Spanish while also learning some of the history behind the dishes as well. My favorite part of cooking was putting the cross on the tarta and then sprinkling powdered sugar on top, then removing it from the top and seeing the shape of the cross on top of it, I just found it so cool. Another thing that I took away from the cooking class was how I’m now able to make these dishes for my friends and family when I go back to the United States and have them try Spanish cuisine. - Jaden S.
