This weekend the students in the Honors Language and Culture Program in Madrid had the opportunity to travel to Valencia, a coastal town here in Spain. During our trip, the students had a chance to do many things and get a different perspective of Spain, outside of Madrid. This trip exposed the students to some of the other cultures of Spain and the individuality of each autonomous community not only through the tours but also through the exposure to another language. We were also able to explore the city and see a lot of what Valencia had to offer including its historic buildings.

One of the things Valencia is most known for is their paella, which is distinct from that of other cities in Spain, mainly for their use of rabbit. To try it, the group traveled to the restaurant Casa Ángel in a small town near La Albufera natural park. There, the students were able to see the most beautiful rice fields, many of them for the first time, and they took many photos.

After that, it was time to eat! We entered the restaurant and took our seats at the various reserved tables. Everyone was excited to try their first paella from Valencia. First, we were met with an appetizer of tapas very typical of Spain which everyone enjoyed.

Then, it was time for the star of the show, the paella! Plate by plate, table by table, everyone got the chance to taste a bit of the culinary expertise from Spain. The reviews were amazing!
