Our visit to Almere and the Upcyclecentrum
The group went to visit Almere and its Upcyclecentrum (upcycling center)
Almere is a city born from nothing. It is situated at the bottom of what was once an inland sea, four meters below sea level. Carefully planned and designed, it serves as a vital housing and business area for Amsterdam and its densely populated metropolitan region.
The Upcyclecentrum collects old materials and creates new products out of them. There are entrepreneurs who come and rent space to create their new products. Currently there is an upholster who restores furniture. There is also a company called Kick Ass Quilts that repairs quilts to give them new life.
