Mitigating our Carbon Footprint in Costa Rica (Written By Deborah)
Today's blog is written by global Navigator and recent high school graduate Deborah! Here is Deborah's reflection on yesturday's class and tree planting activity in Costa Rica:
"In class today, we learned about Carbon Footprint. Each of us used the website https://www.carbonfootprint.com/calculator.aspx to see what "size" ours was. As a result, I learned my family's shoe size is rather significant.
My family is closer to a size 12 while the United States is at 22' (Think Shaquille O'Neal for reference). Still, it is daunting to think that how my family and I exist causes more harm than good for the planet we walk on.
As my instructor pointed out: just by coming to this "Climate Mitigation" program, where we are taught tools to save the planet by exploring how it's dying, my flight emitted 4,558.06 kg of carbon dioxide. Thus the planting of trees explained.
However, while trees are amazing and planting this árbol is an experience I'll never forget, there are so many other ways to reduce your carbon footprint. So I challenge each one of you (readers) to attempt to go down a shoe size, and for inspiration other than planting more trees, I leave you with this link!
