Into the Karoo!
Our final Global Navigators adventure lead our students into the Karoo- a semiarid desert about 3 hours from Cape Town. Here, we arrived at Aquila Private Game Reserve for game drives, star gazing, and relaxation after three weeks of service, learning, engagement, and discussions. The time at Aquila was a time for the students (and their leaders!) to celebrate an amazing trip and spend our last two full days together as a group.
The highlight of Aquila was our two amazing game drives- one at sunset and one at sunrise. In our safari vehicle, students were able to spot and photograph many of the animals commonly associated with South Africa, including four of the Big 5. The Leopard must have had a great hiding place, but we saw elephants, lions, rhino, and buffalo! There were also abundant zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, and springboks along our path.
In the evening, around the Boma, students were able to pick out constellations in the crystal clear night sky while roasting marshmallows and making memories. This has truly been the trip of a lifetime and the students will go home not only with lasting life lessons but lifelong friendships.
