It’s our final week in Alicante and we only have a few afternoon activities left. Before leaving Spain we thought it was important for the students to try one of the most typical dances in Spain, Flamenco! In 2010 Flamenco was designated as World Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. It was so fun for the students to get a chance to learn more.

In the dance class they started by learning the hand movements. Next they learned the most important steps. All the steps make sounds too because usually special shoes are worn. Golpe is when you stomp your foot, planta is the step when you are on the ball of your foot, tacon is when you lift the heel of your foot up, and punta is for when you use your toe to do the step and make the sound. They also learned the clapping and how important it is to know when to do a soft clap or loud clap. Then they put the hand movements and steps together. Everyone really put in their best effort to learn the dance and they did such a great job!
