Tuesday was the first day of "true" class for all students.  They navigated their way to school all by themselves and started at 9:30.  During the morning the students are divided into two different classes, and they have class from 9:30 - 12:15 with a small break in the middle.

After class, we headed to Place Saint-Anne for a quick lunch of their choosing.  Some students ate tacos, sandwiches, crêpes, galettes, and many other delicious Rennais food.

The next activity on our list was the "Rallye de 5 sens" organized by the Rennes Office of Tourism.  This activity was very amusing and interactive for the students.  They were obligated to use their 5 senses in order to learn more about the culture, food, architecture, and attractions. The students heard sounds around the streets, saw different styles of decoration around the "Maisons Pans-de-Bois" (typical Rennais type house), smelled typical scents one would find at the market, and tasted a "Parlementin" which is a typical Rennais pastry made will almonds, apples, and cider.

Following the Rallye de 5 sens, the students completed their first "Community Conversation" or "OZ Le Français".

This activity helped the students get much more comfortable approaching strangers to ask for recommendations and questions.  The Community Conversation topics change each day and are often related to what students learned in class that day.

Students were required to approach Breton people in the "Place de la Mairie" and ask them various questions about life in Rennes and suggestions about what to see and do in the city.  This work is part of their grade each week.  All students approached the activity with enthusiasm and positive attitudes, the program leaders were all impressed and happy to see their hard work!
