Exploring the artist within!
Students tapped into their artistic side this past Wednesday as they decorated piñatas with their class groups! They decorated the traditional “piñatas de siete picos” or in english, the “seven-peaked piñata” that are typically used in Christmas celebrations here. It was great to watch the students work together to create these works of art. In the coming week, the piñatas will be filled with Mexican sweets and we'll take a swing at them.
Students are leaning into the arts and culture part of the program with discussions in class about Mexican muralists, Spanish music and a trip to “El Gran Museo del Mundo Maya”, in English, “The Grand Museum of the Mayan World”. At the museum we learned about Mayan cosmovision, some of their traditions and viewed some incredible artifacts.
Much to our relief the temperatures have dropped down a bit and the afternoon rainstorms are slowly beginning to roll in.
