Uxmal and ChocoStory Museum
This week, our students traveled to the archeological site of Uxmal, where they saw buildings and pyramids from the Mayan civilization. They also learned about the legend of Uxmal, in which a magic dwarf, through a series of tasks and challenges, outwits and overthrows the ruler of Uxmal.
After leaving Uxmal, students went to a museum focused on the history of chocolate in the Mayan culture.
They learned that chocolate was originally consumed in a warm drink but without the sugar and milk we are used to putting in our hot chocolate today. Students enjoyed trying this chocolate drink and adding different ingredients, such as chile.
They also learned about the flora and fauna of the region, including deer, crocodiles, ducks and pheasants, and monkeys.
