Canoeing on the Garonne River
As part of their cultural activity, the aerospace engineering students went canoeing on la Garonne river. The trainer gave them a few minutes briefing on how to paddle while on the river in complete autonomy. They were on the Garonne River for 45 minutes and they enjoyed the activity. This activity is a sport that requires you to use your upper body muscles. During the tour on the river, the trainer gave the students a lot of information about the river, its surrounding bridges, and all kinds of activities that take place around the river during different times of the year. It was interesting to know that it took 100 years to build le “Pont Neuf” (one of the bridges on the river), French for New Bridge. It was also interesting to know that Pont Neuf was the only bridge in Toulouse which was able to withstand the flood of 1875. All other bridges of Toulouse were destroyed although they were recent. Each small group of students and their leaders had the same experience canoeing on the river, having fun, learning about the river, the bridges, and the people in Toulouse.
