Barbequed Octopus + Blood Sausage + Bowling + New Friends = ?
Seoul Navigators began their second week in Korea with some exercises in leaning in, branching out, and giving back.
Leaning In
Seoul Navigators were visited by a VIP, the editor-in-chief of Billboard Korea, Jessica Oak. With knowledge of our favorite k-pop groups and celebrities, Jessica gave us an insider’s perspective on the industry and alerted us to some shocking (both good and bad) revelations about what goes on behind the scenes in K-pop. It was thrilling to hear what Jessica had to say about her favorite groups to interview and her most memorable celebrity encounters. We were literally hanging on the edge of our seats, waiting for what she might reveal next!
Branching Out
Rescheduled due to rain, our street food tour was highly anticipated and did not disappoint. We headed to Myeongdong to try some of the most representative Korean street food along with some more contemporary options. We were stretched out of our comfort zone, and tried many foods that we never thought we would like (and ended up loving in most cases). For example blood sausage and liver went down particularly well, as did spicy rice cakes. Surprisingly, a big hit among the students was barbecued octopus! We also enjoy tornado potato, fish cake, sweet potato glass noodles, and other delicious delights.
Giving Back
Alongside our Korean high school student friends, Navigators got to show their creative side while also giving back to the community by decorating shoes for children in Cambodia.
Afterwards, we headed into Sinchon let our hair down and our voices out at bowling and karaoke.
All these ingredients made for another jam-packed but exciting week in Seoul. Everything’s better when we’re together!
