Atelier Patissier
Culture is made up of many things, but the favorite of most people is the food. La gastronomie française is something everyone must experience at least once in their lives. We went a step further by attending a cooking school where we learned to make une tarte tatin.
Tarte Tatin
We learned the story behing the Tarte Tatin: Legend has it, according to our hosts, that it dates to the late 19th century when a Madame Tatin accidentally dropped upside-down a pie she had just made to serve her customers in the hotel restaurant. In order to salvage it, she scooped it up and served it upside-down, with the crust on the bottom. Thus was born the famous pie we enjoy today.
Faire la Cuisine
We began making the dough for the crust. Once that was cooling in the refrigerator, we made the caremel and stirred in the apples. The pies smelled so good as they were cooking. Everyone did an amazing job--they were delicieuses! A simple yet delectable recipe that the students are now able to make at home!
