The Art of the Matreshka Doll
An iconic symbol of Russia is the "Matreshka" Nesting doll. Dating back to the late 19th century, today's nesting dolls vary from the intricate designs of the traditional Russian "sarafan" dress and apron to fun, contemporary nesting dolls that depict popular cartoons, politicians, or famous politicians. Guided by a local artist, students enjoyed creating their own interpreations of this traditional Russian Folk Art.
