Adventures in Sinchon
This week our students visited the neighborhood of Sinchon for an action packed day of street performances and a cafe birthday event. After an eventful morning of shopping and a Nanta show in Myeongdong, our group traveled on local transit to an evening of fun, food, and dance. K-Pop idol trainees performed dynamic and lively street dance routines in the middle of a pedestrain street to songs including "Advice" by Taemin, "Dynamite" by BTS, "Rover" by Kai, "Super" by Seventeen, and many more. At the end of the performance the CIEE participants were invited up to join the trainees in dancing along to current trending songs such as "Maniac" by Stray Kids and "Unforgiven" by Le Ssarafim. Many of our students bravely displayed their talents while others did a fantastic job of cheering on their friends from the crowd.
While eating a delicious fried chicken dinner with the idol trainees and local high school students from Seoul, our CIEE participants enjoyed the cafe event that celebrated BTS and New Jeans. These events are popular within K-Pop fandoms and include partnerships with local cafes. When it's an idol's birthday, the participating cafe decorates the business with pictures of the idol or group, as well as include a freebie with a drink order. This allows for a chance for fans to celebrate their favorite idols, swap freebies, and get to know others within the fandom.
Our daily adventurues have been a blast and we look forward to two more weeks of fun!
